The University of Mississippi Student Wellness Ambassadors (SWAs) are a team of responsible student leaders who provide health-related programming and serve the Ole Miss community as health resources to enhance the well-being of their peers. Participation in SWA provides a unique opportunity to develop skills in leadership, outreach, and program planning gained through interactive programming and the distribution of health resources and information.
Topics addressed by the SWAs include but are not limited to: nutrition, self-esteem/body image, women’s health, men’s health, healthy relationships, stress management/relaxation, alcohol education, sexuality, and violence prevention. The Student Wellness Ambassadors invite students to think critically about these and other health issues by raising questions, facilitating discussion, and disseminating health information. SWAs develop a multitude of skills, such as: leadership, public speaking, goal setting, time management, team work, program planning and evaluation.
All of these skills prove useful in life and future careers. All Student Wellness Ambassadors are well-trained in specific health areas and are available for programming across the campus. Topics of focus include: physical wellness, drugs and alcohol, sexual wellness, mental wellness and many more. All programming can be tailored to each group.
