RebelADE is a student-centered, educational program that focuses on reducing the harm related to substance use. By using a combination of transtheoretical model constructs, motivational interviewing, and experiential learning; and with a philosophy grounded in harm reduction, RebelADE creates an individualized plan for each student. This program is part of a continuum of care provided by the University of Mississippi, and has reciprocal referrals from Conflict Resolution and Student Conduct, UMatter, University Counseling Center, and many others. RebelADE is intended to create a conversation within each student and allow them to recognize and create change within their own lives. Our goal is to help students make better decisions and positive behavior change. The program’s style is empathetic, not confrontational or judgmental, and has the following goals:
After program completion, each student shall:
- Increases their own protective behaviors
- Reduce personal substance use
- Promotes healthier, positive choices for themselves and their peers
- Develop positive and healthy coping skills for risk reduction
RebelADE is conducted over the course of 3-5 educational sessions, and these sessions can prompt students to change their substance use patterns. Our sessions include but are not limited to: Decision Making Model Seminar in classroom and recreation settings, Brief Intervention, Early Intervention Program, Mentoring Sessions or Collegiate Recovery Community.
